Pandemonium
PBG Newsletter: Naomi Novik, Tomorrow at 7 PM!
Pandemonium is pleased to host Naomi Novik at 7:00 PM TOMORROW (July 17th) in celebration of her newest novel, Tongues of Serpents.
Naomi Novik is an American novelist from New York. She studied English Literature at Brown University and Computer Science at Colombia University. She also participated in the design and development of the Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of the Undertide.
Naomi is also one of the founding board members of the Organization for Transformative Works, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the rights of fan creators, as she is also a fanfic writer and fan vidder.
Her Temeraire series is set during an alternate history version of the Napoleonic Wars, in which dragons not only exist but are used as a staple of aerial warfare in Asia and Europe. The dragons of the story are portrayed as sentient and intelligent, capable of logical thought and human speech. The series centres primarily on events involving Temeraire (the titular dragon) and his handler, Will Laurence.
In the latest installation, Laurence and Temeraire (exiled to Australia) must navigate treacherous political waters to protect three dragon eggs.
Her website can be found here.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Does Anyone Have A Portable PA System We Could Borrow/Rent?
UPDATE: One's been found!
When Naomi Novik was last at Pandemonium, many attendees had trouble hearing her. I ordered a small PA system for her to use when she comes back to the store this Saturday evening (it will also be for our larger events), but I've just been informed that it won't arrive until next week.
So, is there anyone out there from whom I can borrow or rent the use of a smallish PA system for this Saturday? Please email me at tyler(at)pandemoniumbooks(dot)com.
Thanks!

PBG Newsletter: Special Edition! Afternoon Events and Closed This Sunday
First and foremost, Pandemonium Books and Games will be closed this Sunday, July 4th! Enjoy the holiday! We will return to our regular schedule on Monday.
Next, Pandemonium is pleased to announce its new schedule of afternoon events! These will occur on Tuesdays through Fridays, from 2PM-6PM in the Arena (downstairs area). These events, specifically geared towards young adults age 12-17 and their families, will encompass a wide variety of games perfect for after-school gaming (or just a fun afternoon during vacation)!
The regular schedule will be as follows:
-Tuesday: RPGs! Whether it's an old-school D&D dungeon crawl or a newly-discovered game you're dying to try, Tuesday is the perfect time! Young gamers will be given the opportunity to act as both player and GM, making these campaigns specifically by and for the next generation of gamers.
-Wednesday: Trading Card Games! Wednesday afternoons are a great time to develop a winning strategy or fine-tune your deck for Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon. Or maybe you have a spare deck and would like to show someone else how to play your favorite game.
-Thursday: Wargames! We're rolling out the big tables (and the big guns) on Friday! Bring your forces to bear in Warhammer, 40k, Malifaux, Warmachine or any other miniature wargame. In addition to casual games, be on the lookout for special events such as map campaigns, special scenarios, or the ever-popular Apocalypse game! There will also be a hobby station set up to build, convert and paint the newest additions to your army.
-Friday: Boardgames! It's no secret that we've got tons of boardgames at Pandemonium, and Friday is your chance to try them all! Dabble in dozens or master a few.
We look forward to seeing you at these events! If you have any questions about the afternoon schedule, feel free to email Matt (matt@yourmovegames.net) or give us a call at (617) 547-3721.
Finally, a brief reminder that we have two authors coming to visit in the next few weeks: Charles Stross on Tuesday, July 13th at 7:00 PM and Naomi Novik on Saturday, July 17th at 7:00 PM. Come visit these excellent authors and get a signed copy of their latest work!
Have a safe and fun weekend! Our newsletter will return to normal next week with the gaming news!
Saturday Demo Day
First, let me introduce myself, as this is my first post to this journal. My name is Niko White and I'm the Games Manager for Pandemonium. You might have seen me at the store or YMG; if not, I hope I'll get a chance to meet you soon!
Now, business. As part of the new event schedule for Pandemonium, I'll be running Saturday afternoon events on days when we don't have a big event or an "away game" I have to run. Watch this space (and our email gaming newsletter) for details of future events. In the mean time, the first such Saturday will be this one, July 3rd. It's a bit near to organize a tournament or other single event, but I'll be there all afternoon with some of my favorite games, looking to run demos. Come by and learn, or bring one of your favorites to show off. Hope to see you there!
Niko

Your Move Events Will Be Hosted At Pandemonium!
As a reminder, Pandemonium will be closing the Your Move Games store this Saturday. However, we are pleased to announce that many of the Your Move Games events will continue to occur (only at Pandemonium instead!) including:
-Tuesday, 6:30 PM: MTG Sealed Deck: Play sealed at a discounted rate ($18) from regular events! This is a sanctioned event and does include prize support. Please remember that space is limited and registration is on a first-come-first-serve basis starting at 5:45 PM.
-Friday, 6:30 PM: MTG Standard Constructed: This event will be running alongside our regular FNM! Build and bring a deck with cards legal in the Standard Format. This is a 4-round, 50-minute time limit Swiss event with store credit prizes awarded to top finishing players based on attendance. Entry fee is $5, registration begins at 5:45 PM.
-Saturday, 6:30 PM: Yu-Gi-Oh! Constructed Event: Come play in yet another Konami Advanced constructed tournament here at Pandemonium! This event will run in addition to Yu-Gi-Oh! on Tuesday nights. Participants will receive a free Turbo Pack! Information on the current format for Yu-Gi-Oh! can be found on the official site: http://www.yugioh-card.com/en/.
July 10th and July 11th: M11 Prerelease Events!
Pandemonium will be hosting two sealed deck prerelease events for Magic 2011! One will be held at 12:01 AM on Saturday, July 10th and the second will be at 1:00 PM on Sunday, July 11th. The entry fee will be $25 and players will receive six packs to build their decks with. Promotional cards may also be available while supplies last. While we are unfortunately limited to only two sealed events by Wizards of the Coast, we will run side drafts throughout Saturday!
Pandemonium will also host a Mutant Intro Draft on Saturday at 6:30 PM for those involved in Open Dueling! This is a fun and original way to get more use out of your M11 intro pack. The cost will be $10 plus the price of Open Dueling entry. Once you've opened the preconstructed deck (and played it in Open Dueling as much as you like) you'll draft the M11 pack that comes with it, plus a pack of Worldwake and a pack of Rise of the Eldrazi (the costs of which are included in the entry fee). You'll then use the cards you draft to improve the preconstructed deck, resulting in a 60-card-minimum deck of awesomeness. Because this format is unusual it will not be DCI sanctioned. Prizes will be in store credit or older packs, not M11 packs, as this is our own format and not an official prerelease event.
M11 Pre-Order Rates!
Just as a reminder: Pandemonium is taking pre-orders on boxes of Magic 2011 and customers have the opportunity to buy them at one of three rates:
1. The deeply discounted price of $90/box which does NOT count towards earning store credit.
2. $510/case, which also does not stack with memberships but gets you an extra special amount of fun.
3. $108/box, which DOES apply to customer accounts (and therefore gets you an automatic $10 gift certificate!) and comes with the buy-a-box promo card.
New releases can be found here on the forums.

Your Moves Games To Close June 26th, 2010
The silver lining of this situation is that we will be able to focus all of our efforts and resources on improving Pandemonium in every way over the next few months. We will be consolidating the staffs, fixtures, inventories and events of both stores at Pandemonium. No we won't be able to fit everything, but we will able to get most everything, I think. We will be rearranging Pandemonium's downstairs area to make more room for a larger roster of events and a more diverse inventory of games. Book lovers will be pleased to know that with a larger staff, my attention will be freed up to focus on improving Pandemonium's book selection and literary events, both of which have suffered over the last year.
All members of Your Move Games will have their accounts moved over to Pandemonium, including all credits and Frequent Buyer points. People who have accounts at both stores will simply have their credit and points from Your Move Games added to their Pandemonium membership. As mentioned above, we will be moving most of the contents of Your Move Games to Pandemonium, so we will not be having a closeout sale at Your Move Games. With any luck, we will be announcing the enhanced schedule of events at Pandemonium over the next couple of weeks and will hopefully be able to kick them off after the Fourth of July weekend.
I have created a topic in the General Discussion area of the forum on Pandemonium's website:
http://www.pandemoniumbooks.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=12151
I will be checking it daily and will be happy to answer any questions. I welcome any constructive feedback. Trolls will be banished.

Pandemonium Will Be Closed Easter Sunday (4/3/10)
Your Move Games will be open regular hours on Easter Sunday.
Thanks, and Happy Easter!
